In-depth Tactic comparison thread
Please note that this currently is a work in progress.
ETA will be in 1-2 weeks with preliminary results and statistics.
I will provide links for reference and download to each individual tactic, so you can try and see if the tactics work for you.
Everybody wants a tactic that makes them win 100% of the time and I can honestly say, for sure in FM 2014 that is simply not going to happen. First of all, it wouldn't be realistic and secondly: depending on the team you choose (like in this case with one of my test teams with a media prediction 12th, it is unreal to expect a win against the big teams all the time). Maybe with a team like Barcelona or Manchester City/United you will be able to dominate almost every match and win 95% of them, but that is regardless of which tactics you'll use, that is why I selected a weaker team, where good tactics are needed to achieve something. I also will run the same tests with a team in a different league and a media prediction of 2nd/3rd. Not a European top team, but still, a higher ranked team that actually has a chance of winning the local competition.
I started off with 38 (yes thirty eight!!!) popular and deemed to be "top" tactics for patch 14.3.1, after playing 15 matches with each tactic I will eliminate the bottom 13 tactics, leaving me with 25 tactics.
After another 10 matches, I will eliminate another 10 tactics, leaving me with the top 15.
I have created spreadsheets and am gathering and analysing the most important stats on each game I played with every tactic, and will end my analyses after playing a lot of games with each one of them with the exact same team. I also created a comparison spreadsheet that will compare all statistics in one overview.
That way you can select and sort the tactics by your own preference. For example if you are looking for a high possession tactic and want to see which one performed best, you can easily select that.
Or maybe you are looking for a counter attacking style, it's all easy to see and compare.
It is a work in progress but I'm pretty happy about how it looks like now already.
Currently I'm hallway phase 1, so I played 8 full matches with all 38 tactics.
Not sure if anything like that already exists, but I created a "shot on goal ratio" in the comparison spreadsheet.
This will show you how many shots on goal my team with the tactic had compared to the opposition on average. (a ratio of 2.3 for example would mean that you have 2.3 shots on goal for every 1 shot your opponent has). I think this will be valuable as you want to make sure you are getting your shots in as much as possible, while limiting your opponents chances.
I also will measure a "CCC ratio", which will compare how many CCC you get relatively to the opposition.
In my testing so far I noticed this is a great way of "cutting out" underperforming tactics.
The postings on different websites for the tactics will be included in this so you can read the authors notes and recommendations regarding the tactic.
Every tactic has its own strengths and weaknesses and even though a particular tactic might have been ""build around a certain team" I wanted to make a fair comparison between the tactics I tested for this purpose. When you play 20+ time the same match over and over again with each time a different tactic it showed me very easily which tactic is showing consistent results. Some tactics show consistently higher possession stats, other ones more CCC etc. Which tactic is good for you all depends on your personal preference and the team you have chosen.
You might say "luck also comes into play which of course is true, football is not an exact science and even though you dominate and have the best chances, it happens that you still draw or even lose the match. That is why I have played 20+ games with each of the tactics, just to get the "luck factor" (or "bad luck factor") out of play.
So what is a good tactic?? For me, but that is just me, I prefer to lose a game with 0-1, after completely outplaying the opponent and having 8-1 balls on goal, 4-1 CCC etc. My board probably would still be unhappy, but if these stats would be there, it shows the tactic is working well.

I am not the creator of any of these tactics, I am merely a tester who has already spent many, many hours in testing in real-time (no simulated or "instant results" games) all of these tactics.
It is impossible to test every single tactic out there, there must be hundreds out there and every creator feels his/hers is the best.
In my choices I have reviewed all feedback the users gave to determine if the tactic would be good enough to be included.
